Material: Ellyn Cooper’s Yarn Sonnets, Texas Bighorn, 1 skein Kakhi Blues, Size US 5 / 3.75 mm dpn needles
Gauge: 5 sts = 1” in pattern stitch
Size: Finished hand circumference 7 ( 7 1/2, 8 )”
Cable stitch pattern:
Cnf = Slip 2 sts onto cn and hold in front; k2; k2 from cn
Cnb = Slip 2 sts onto cn and hold in back; k2; k2 from cn
Rnd 1: k4, Cnb, Cnf, k4
Rnd 2: k16
Rnd 3: K2, Cnb, k4, Cnf, k2
Rnd 4: k16
Rnd 5: Cnb, k8, Cnf
Rnd 6: k16
Repeat rnds 1-6
Ribbing pattern: *k1, p1*
Right hand:
Cast on 34 ( 38, 40 ) sts
Place 17 (19, 20 ) sts on needle number1
Place 8, (9, 10 ) sts on needle number 2
Place 9, (10, 10 ) sts on needle number
Join carefully not to twist and knit 9 (9, 11) rnds in ribbing pattern or to desired length of cuff.
Set up round: k1 (k2, k2 ) pm, k16, pm, k0 (k1, k2 ) needle 1; k sts on needle 2 + 3 and inc 1 st at end of rnd.
Shape thumb gusset:
Knit across needle 1 using the cable stitch pattern in between markers, pm (different color, for example blue) m1, k1, m1, pm (blue), k to end of rnd.
Increase 2 sts inside gusset markers (blue) in this manner every 3 rnds 2 (4, 6 ) times and every 4 rnds 2 (1, 0) times.
At the same time continue to knit cable pattern inside marker of needle.Then place gusset sts on holder or yarn and remove gusset markers. Cast on 1 st over gap and rejoin. K to end of rnd.
Continue to knit even until 4 (4, 5) cable pattern repeats are completed. Cont in ribbing for 3 more rnds and bind off losely.
Thumb:
Place gusset sts on needle and knit 1 st between thumb and hand. Arrange sts evenly on 3 needles. K 3 (4, 5) rnds.
Continue in ribbing for 2 more rnds. BO and weave in ends.
Left hand:
Knit as for right hand but place stitches for needle number 1 + 2 like the sts for needle 2 + 3 and sts of needle 3 like needle 1 (right hand).
Now the sts for cable pattern will be on needle 3.
