Am I correct that the free needle is held in the right hand? Also, not sure about the yarn over--when I knit and do a yarn over I bring the working yarn (which has been at the back as I am knitting along)to the front as if to purl only I knit instead. Not clear to me what you mean by this YO is opposite to the usual. I am an experienced beginner so probably just ignorance. You tube has not been helpful and could not find info on Ravelry.
